I like this view from my kitchen window. The camping trips are not frequent enough. But I keep the dream alive every time I look outside. The wreath is a nice touch, don't you think?

Adventures on the Blue Ridge Parkway
Just back from a camping trip. We set up at Julian Price Park Campground, off the Blue Ridge Parkway - a beautiful place. Too bad it rained all day and all night both Thursday & Friday. I learned several important lessons about Airstream camping this weekend. I'll share those details later.

Airstream updates
This past weekend was fun. I figured out how to work the water heater. That baby is a flame thrower. My wife is pleased to know that hot showers are now available when we travel. I also got some new wheels and tires. I really wanted to keep things original, but I discovered that the original wheels are split ring rims. I am now aware that this is trouble. Very few dealers will change out tires on split ring rims. They also require tubes inside of the tires.
Turns out one of my neighbors is an RVer and he has owned 3 Airstreams before. He had an extra set of stainless steel rims (regular rims) in his attic. He cut me a good deal on 'em. Mighty fine. Andy says keeping good tires on there is key. "Even with lots of tread still on the tire, they should be changed every 5 years," he says. I took the advice.

Working on it
This week I hope to replace some of the plumbing. (Okay, really I'm just talking about buying a new sewage hose, one that fits tight and doesn't leak all over the place.) Also hope to figure out how to light up that water heater.
